31 May 2009 Netersel, Holland

I got up a little early and sent an e-mail to my girlfriend Mary. I hadn’t been able to make contact while I was in France with all the little problems and gremlins that seemed to be plaguing me. I loaded my motorcycle and Lia showed me the way to Netersel, Holland where I visited friends/relatives of my uncle and aunt’s family. The last time I saw them was in 1986 when I rode my 1980 Harley-Davidson in Europe. When I arrived, I was met by Toos, the matriarch of the family and it wasn’t long before the entire family came over to visit. It was so great to visit with and see everyone. As the festivities wound down we headed for the in-house family internet café and started to diagnose the problem with Matilda. It appeared that the either the maps were corrupted or they were not completely loaded. I’m betting I didn’t have the European maps loaded completely, which caused me undue grief. I left her son working on the Garmin and I went and changed clothes. That night Toos and I traveled by car to her oldest daughter’s home in the Village of Oirschot. We ate supper/dinner with her family and then took a walking tour of the village with the final destination being the ice cream shop. I found out that all the narrow walking paths that lead to the center of town actually in earlier times led to the church. These paths had hedges on each side which were about seven to eight feet high, peculiar only to this village. On our return trip to Netersel, Toos showed me a shrine to Mary the Mother of Jesus Christ. I lit two candles, one for Toos’s family for good luck and one for myself that I have a safe journey through the
Russian Federation. As we continued on home Toos showed me where she was born and raised and then we went back to Netersel. I spoke with her son again about Matilda and he figured she was OK with the maps correctly loaded. I told him I would try Matilda out on my motorcycle and let him know if she worked OK. It was time for bed.
