26 May 2009 Caen France
I drove from Wissant, through Abbeville and Rouen, to Caen and Matilda went brain dead. I didn’t realize it till she sent me back the same way I came. After 20 km I knew something was wrong and tried to sort it out. No luck. I thought I deleted the maps. I wouldn’t know this until I hooked up my computer to Matilda and checked if she had the European maps loaded. I drove into Caen, bought some fuel, and was half drowned from riding in the rain from Abbeville. It was a fun day, and cold. After finding gas I started looking for a hotel. I found one I liked but according to the receptionist, it was booked up and I was turned out in the rain at 9:00 p.m. I was unhappy and tired. I searched out two more hotels and didn’t like the look of them. So I left town in the rain with a broken GPS unit. I drove down the motorway and stopped in a truck stop. I went inside, ate some sandwiches and drank a liter of milk. I got the feeling it was time to leave and walked outside in the rain. I got on my motorcycle and drove behind the building. Here was a large rest area with picnic tables and trees. I found some bushes that I could hide out of sight till morning. I parked my motorcycle and crawled under the nearest tree that sheltered me from the rain and went to sleep. I had my rain suit, boots, gloves, and helmet on. I didn’t really get wet but it felt like I was sleeping in a wet bed or had a wet diaper on.
