2 July 2009 36 miles past Krasnoyarsk, Russia

Here I sit typing and the Swiss guys are already three hours down the road. I was kind of hoping to get a picture of them in their riding outfits and bicycles. Maybe I’ll see them on the highway and then I’ll get a picture of them. I will again be traveling on Hwy M53 to Mariinsk, Achinsk, and will stop either in Krasnoyarsk or a bit farther. I depends how the road is and the speed I’m traveling.

This was a very good road so I made good time and rode past Krasnoyarsk. Matilda says I’m 36 miles/60 kms past Krasnoyarsk. I was kind of planning to stay in a hotel in Krasnoyarsk for the night but they put in a bypass around the city and I just kept on going. The bad thing about the bypass is it has no gas stations and I was starting to turn blue in the face hoping to find a gas station before I passed out from holding my breath. Man, I sure don’t want to run out of gas in this country. I also realize by not stopping in Krasnoyarsk that I would probably be bush camping tonight. So as I drove I had to keep my eyes open for a discreet field for privacy and security. The perfect field road presented itself to me and down it I went. I found a spot where I could easily put up my tent. I turned my bike around, stopped it, and was swarmed by mosquitoes. I had to leave my visor down to keep the mosquitoes out of my face till I dug out my hat and mosquito face net. Then I just laughed at the mosquitoes. I set up my tent. Again I stacked everything by the door, opened it and threw everything in. I crawled in and zipped the door as fast as I could. I arranged everything and killed whatever mosquitoes were inside. I cooled down and then took a look at Matilda. She went a little goofy again and she can’t find a town. I worked with her and was able to have her follow a route but she doesn’t know where she is going. After I got that sorted out I went to bed. I can’t figure out how she worked so well earlier in the day and now she pooped on me again just before I stopped for the night. Matilda is a mystery woman.
